Rainbow Station Summer Camp
Entering into the chattering of excited children, we entered into Rainbow Station for our final day there. We could feel the buzz of anticipation and excitement from every child there, and each one was really looking to the one BIG thing our TALON 540 team was promising them; a robot that shoots Frisbees! Over the course of that week, our TALON 540 Outreach Team spent time teaching and helping students at the local Rainbow Station about robotics. Our promotion of STEM education seemed to interest the kids who signed up so much that they were ecstatic when we initially started our program. With our usual curriculum, we used our BombiniBots to help them learn fundamentals of robotics, mainly through the building and programming stages of the week. Our team started the week off with fun activities to introduce one another, progressing into the stages of building by taking apart and rebuilding the robot. Afterwards, the programming stage of the curriculum began, allowing for the students present at the camp to gain avid exposure into the realm of Scratch. Finally, we concluded the camp with fun games that used the knowledge the children learned over the course of the week, including an obstacle course, and a timed building challenge. For a final treat, we brought in our 6.0 FRC robot which shot Frisbees and played multiple games with the Rainbow Station kids!
